Report of the Relief action from 9th until 30th of March, 2009 -
On March 9th, 2009 me and my wife Martina flew together on our own expense (donations, sales revenue, etc.) to Sri Lanka to hand over 4.619 EUR in order to implement the promised help on the spot(latest applications for relief) with the local team
Besides that, we assured the supply of all existing family-child-godparentships, as well as the pupil-sponsorship until December 2009.
The first days, again, were affected by controlling the bank-accounts (account-movements plus receipts) and the prearrangement regarding handling the latest relief actions.
At Wadduwa, we arranged a long meeting together with all existing sponsors and the responsible person in charge (Indra Washanti), in which we discussed all important matters for the families and children in Sri Lanka, as well as for the German sponsor. The most comprehensive matter, to be discussed, was the adametic apprenticeship and the visit of school itself; because of it the children will gain a better apprenticeship and a more worth living future. The meeting was positive affected by the visit of the teacher (private tutoring).
Before starting the trip to the south of Sri Lanka, we had a very successful meeting with father Damian of Caritas SED, Galle. We, well-known as Family Emergency Assistance (registered charity) in Sri Lanka, received 70.000 rupee (495,62 Euro), as an extra benefit for needed help at Matara. Besides that, there will be checked, if Caritas SED Galle has the possibility to assume further help at Matara.
At Matara the first meeting with our staff took place, before handing over relief supplies to needy families. Three families received a bicycle with fish-box; one family received a gas cooker with gas bottle; one family a complete hair-dressing/dresser-set. With these goods handed over, it is from now on possible, for the families, establishing their own livelihood and ensuring their survival by earning their own money. With the money, received from Caritas SED, we took over the repair of the roofs by 5 poor families at Matara. At Tangalle we handed over a spastic-handicapped man the required medicine till December 2009. Together with this, we were able to procure, for a single-mother with five children and for the paraplegic mother with one child, food-coupons. Moreover, the handicapped woman obtained a new water-mattress, as the old one was washed-out and the woman developed bedsores. In case of the woman with the five children, we need further inspection to gain more aid.
The next tour led us to Panwila; there we ultimately controlled the facilities for a school and their pupils. In addition with this, we arranged and attached recent help. (Sponsor is Ramspau basic primary school/Germany.)
Among control by one of our collaborator, there will be installed a safety railing along the scarp and we will install an aqueduct directly to the school, together with a tank (large), it supplies the school with drinking water.
Richard Jedrys handed the 140 children, on behalf of our charity, books and pens over, as a bonus.
Thence we started to Negombo. There a meeting with our staff took place, came for different places at Sri Lanka. Together with this, we arranged inspection of a new house (in-between a drain and a track). We handed hearing devices (sponsored by Guffler-optics/Germany) over. We had also a positive conversation with the German embassy at Colombo.
A further relief action took place at Kalutara. There we handed seven sewing-machines, a welding-apparatus and two bicycles, to ten needy families over. The families originating from Kalutara, Dodangoda, Wattawa, Maggona, Payagala, Dadaggoda and Bentota.
On behalf of the Czech Republic a family received food and we checked a play-school more precisely.
Besides that, we handed eyeglasses in Matara and Negombo over, and we re-purchased Singhalesian articles, Sri Lanka-orginated, for disposal in Germany. We also visited the home-of-handicapped-children at Kalutara (it will gain a monthly permanent help), and we established contacts to other private relief-organisations.
Expenditures in total 3.747 Euro for relief supplies, 841 Euro for sponsorships, 534 Euro in common.
